Sybil St. Claire

 


With graduate degree in Dramatic Writing and Theatre for Young Audiences Sybil St. Claire has been writing, directing, performing, and teaching for stage and screen for over 20 years.


An internationally produced and published playwright/lyricist and her most recent film credits include the screenplays Bloom and Maam’s Crossing. Additional film credits include work with The New York Film Academy, the movie Karaoke King, Tony Award nominee John Arthur Pinckard, Academy Award nominee Bill Suchy, Emmy Award winner Charles St. Claire and Niceklodeon Studios. Her original plays for young audiences Woolfie and Incantation have enjoyed productions in 33 states, and in Canada, Europe, and Central America. Her work may also be found in Audition Monologues for Student Actors: Volume II.


An oft-invited speaker and hands-on educator, Sybil has presented and taught at international venues such as the Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities, Theatre of Changes in Athens, Greece, and Semester at Sea where she has traveled to Italy, Spain, Greece, Croatia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Egypt, and Morocco teaching the tenants of Theatre for Social Change inspired by Augusto Boal, and Acting methodologies such as Viewpoints and Meisner. Her enthusiastic style and presentation make her a favorite at seminars, workshops and conferences.


As a Lecturer of Theatre at the University of Central Florida Conservatory Theatre Sybil co-created and teaches in one of the nation's most distinctive Master of Fine Arts in Theatre for Young Audiences.  Her work has been honored with awards such as Professor of the Year and Outstanding Research and Creativity. Recently, she has received special congressional recognition from the U.S. House of Representatives as a “driving force in youth theatre.”


Sybil served as the Founding Artistic Director of All Children's Theatre in Gainesville, Florida for 17 years and as the Artistic Director of The Orlando Repertory Theatre, a professional theatre for young audiences. In addition, she has worked with terminally ill pediatric patients as part of Arts in Medicine at Shands Hospital/University of Florida, with foster children in the State of Florida's Guardian Ad Litem Program, with hearing impaired youth in theatre for the deaf, and as an Actor Training Consultant to Walt Disney World Entertainment.


As an American Association of University Women Fellow, and the recipient of the Drew Randall Courage and Passion award for her work with the terminally ill, Sybil’s personal and professional life have long been rooted in service to community and dedicated to helping others to live their best lives.


She is a member of the International Center for Women Playwrights, TYA/USA, The Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, and Women in Film.
